Part I – Chapter’s Overall Goals and Objectives
- Reaching out to introduce and keep more women in the game of golf:
As a leadership team, the chapter’s board members have set the following membership goals for 2009.
- Increase new membership growth by approximate 50%
- Maintain a current membership retention rate of at least 80%
- Acquiring an overall growth of 15 new members to bring our chapter membership totals to 50 members. All new and renewing members will be recognized on the website.
- Key strategies and tactics for achieving membership goals:
Hold at least two open board meetings for all members so the board members activities are transparent and accountable to the membership.
Implement a membership recruitment point system awarding points to members who actively pursue new members, renew their own membership, invite prospective members to different chapter events, post and distribute chapter flyers on events and membership. Members who have accumulate a determine level of points will be recognized in chapter newsletter, e-blasts and website. The member with the most points at the end of the year will receive a special EWGA prize at our end of year event.
All board members and officers are committed to being enthusiastic when engaging current members and prospective members by sharing the chapter benefits they have gained for themselves with others. This will be done by proving that our EWGA chapter will help them learn to play golf and develop a better business network for acquiring contacts and customers. This will be accomplished through our business/employment seminars and our quality golf education programs. We will verbally paint a picture for prospective members and beginner golfers to see themselves confidently competing in golf leagues and tournaments.
The Chapter’s Outreach Program to non golfers and experienced golfers who are not aware of EWGA will be introduced via EWGA posters, brochures, and flyers displays at small businesses, golf shops, libraries, fitness centers, salons, sporting goods stores, and spas, if permitted. EWGA literature will also be presented at informational tables at women conferences in Southern Maryland communities; special personal invitations to membership for Women’s Golf Month activities and chapter social/networking events; publicity in community press newspapers; and “shoppers guide” publications in the Southern Maryland Tri-County area. All golf events will be posted on the Play Golf America website between the months of March and October.
- Keep comprehensive list of non-members, golf professionals, and sponsorship contact information.
- Member Feedback Forms will be distributed at the Spring Kick-off Luncheon & Golf Event in March
2. Encouraging and rewarding volunteer service and providing opportunities to develop leadership skills:
By getting more members personally involved by having the president, officers, and key board members each contacting a certain number of current members and develop personal relationships. The outcome of the relationships is to find out what each member is seeking from the chapter and ask the member to become more personally involved/ invested in the chapter through assuming a leadership and/or volunteer position. These positions will involve offering an active role with a committee for an event. The goal is to have them see themselves in leadership roles.
All board committee chairs are assigned an advisor from the five chapter officers. The advisor assures that each committee chair is meeting their goals and provides any assistance needed on planning and financial matters. Advisors also encourage and identify along with the Leadership Chair potential committee members.
Event volunteers will receive special recognition by receiving different lapel pins such as the “President’s Pin” for taking the lead on organizing an event and “Chapter Volunteer Pin” for working on an event. All board members will receive a special name badge for their term in office.
Two themed Leadership Series workshops will be offered on advancing within the chapter, section and nationally.
At year end event all volunteers will receive a framed certificate or plague of recognition for their work in the chapter.
3. Providing the EWGA golf education programs for new golfers and golfers of all skill levels:
For the 2009 year the chapter will be offering 10 golf education programs in the following areas:

A league orientation workshop will be held in March and each league location will begin April and end in October. At the end of the league seasons a League Recognition Gathering will be held to award prizes to players.
In preparation for our Chapter Championship we will conduct five tour 18-hole outings to prepare and qualify members to establish a handicap and play in Chapter Championship.

Any inquiries made by members or guests regarding the chapter activities to chapter officers or committee chairs will be followed up immediately or within the following week.
